As the Chinese economy continues to grow, increased commercial engagement with Africa will offer the continent new and rewarding prospects for trade, investment and economic development. At the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), which was held in 2015, H.E. President Xi Jinping of China announced the ten cooperation plans that include industrialisation and agricultural modernisation. Johannesburg Action Plan (2016- 2018) also emanated from the 2015 Johannesburg Summit, and was implemented by China and African countries to serve as a turning point for continental industrial growth. The biggest challenge facing governance in the 21st century Africa is industrial development. Industrial development is one of the key agencies of sustainable growth and development. Moreover, for FOCAC to succeed, China-Africa cooperation will have to promote industrial best practices to reduce poverty and inequality and raise standards of living in both regions. The objective of this book is to analyse the implications and benefits of promoting industrial development and agricultural modernisation through FOCAC for both regions. The new policy initiatives and proposals outlined in this study could make a valuable contribution by strengthening FOCAC and advancing Africa’s economic development. This book is the second volume. The first volume, FOCAC 2015: A new beginning of China-Africa relations, was published in 2015.
